blast from the past

This is a map of circa 1950s downtown Knoxville. The way it was intended to be before 1960s "Urban Renewal." Notice that First Creek is in the center of the map- not the eastern edge of town, covered by a monstrous highway to nowhere.

Actually, I don't see First Creek anywhere on this map. Maybe that just shows that even by the 1950s we had decided it wasn't worth saving.

first creek isn't mapped, but it would be in the center of the map. the whole grid on the right side of the map is gone, now a hockey rink and a bunch of empty parking garages.
