my favorite *summer* place to eat is backroom barbQ. first i drink as many ktownkaronas as i can before the food comes. and after eating my pulled pork sandwich with fried corn on the cob, i like to have a cigar and talk pseudo-intellectually.

I love the Downtown Grill & Brewery. They usually have good music and the food is always good, always. I have eat way too much this past year and I have never had a bad meal. Plus, they have great happy hour specials!

Since Riverside Tavern and Cha-Cha's have both gone belly up, I believe La Costa would be the winner. Outstanding food and great, relaxed ambience. And don't sound like a redneck--it's pronounced COAST-uh, not COST-uh. :-)

i agree with will, steps 1 through 4 for a good summer evening.
though i will put on here for consideration king tut's down in vestal. it somehow combines the coolness of a southern dive and the exoticness of a middle eastern restaurant. the only place you can get baba ghanoush and a "meat and three." best greek salad in knoxville!

I don't think you can beat the Olive Garden at Turkey Creek for good food and ambience. It's just like going to Italy.

Chill out, kids. I'm kidding.

So far, and I stress SO FAR, La Costa has served me the most impressive meal. They really execute on their concept like few other places I've ever been to and the service and atmosphere has been great. The shrimp, andouille and grits is a must have.

Downtown Grill, though I don't want to like it as much as I do because of it's size and popularity, always impresses me with the quality of the food and the drink prices. The beer's pretty good, too.

I've got to get over to King Tut's.

king tut's bonus: crazy disco/karaoke party after nine on weekend nights!

I'll third backroom bbq. Knoxville has a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse now, which will be by far the best restaurant that Knoxville has ever known, but I'll never be able to afford to go there. For my money, it's Sam's Cafe (formerly Pete's) at Main St. and Locust for their friday special, fried chicken, broccoli, and mac and cheese.

Pasta Trio. Hands down. Great atmosphere--you feel like you're dining at your friend's house, great food (i haven't had a bad plate on their menu and their daily specials are fantastic), and you can bring your own wine (good if you'd like to have great food and wine but can't handle typical restaurant prices).

i cant endorse ruth's chris as being "the best" merely because it's a chain. yes, it's good. but i've got to support the local places. has anyone ever been to ye olde steak house? i dont really ever choose a steak house, but i've heard that place is pretty good.

I really, really like La Costa, but I have to say my favorite is Tomato Head. I've never had anything there that I didn't absolutely love. I'd choose La Costa if I were looking for a fancier dinner, but Tomato Head is delicious for lunch or a casual dinner.

is baker peter's that jazz place? if so i always wanted to go there and never got a chance. and what is brasserie? you gotta say what you like about them.
i also forgot to say that i also liked all the copper celler corp. restaurants. they had the most perfect sized portions of fish i had ever seen. but for some reason the quality went way down after about mid august.

smoochies does have a point, northshore brasserie is very, very good. and, will, i will tell you why:
very, very reasonably priced, delicious lunch options, like the fried egg and cheese brioche or the quiche. just yesterday, my love and i had lunch there. we got the mussels (YUM!) and split the burger. it is a very heavenly burger. you can pick which cheese you want (Roquefort, cheddar or guyere...sorry i dont know how to spell that one). also, their french fries and bread are delish.

i cant really speak for their dinner choices, because i can't really afford to eat dinner there, but i am sure they are wonderful.

i have never been to baker peter's but i think stan has a connection to it. i do like martinis a lot.

baker peter's does have really good food. but it's more the type of place you want to go have drinks at versus dinner, in my opinion. the live jazz is usually really good. and they have a humidor ON-SITE, for all you cigar smokers. plus, the restaurant is in a antebellum house and i believe there are rumors of civil war ghosts that lurk there in the wee hours of the morning. so if you go, don't get sloshed and fall asleep in a closet--you might not like the person who wakes you.
