S.O.S: save our Skybox

Friends of the Wigshop: It has come to our attention that our Wigshop HQ aka the Skybox at the Sunsphere has fallen on rough times. WBIR reports that Southern Graces, the company that caters all the private functions at the Sunsphere and operates the Skybox, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The story says Southern Graces will continue to operate, but the company owes about $204,000 to creditors and holds assets of less than $50,000.

We're asking you to throw some biznass their way. We know the drinks are a little pricey, but consider it to be taking one for the collective city of Knoxville team. How many other cities can say they have a gold disco ball hung in the sky WHERE YOU CAN DRINK? Let me repeat: gold disco ball sky drink.

Thank you in advance for your help with this urgent matter.

I was just there yesterday for HH and noticed their prices were lower than I remembered. $2 domestics, $3 Stella and Lowenbrau - that's pretty damn affordable. I hope they make it!! -M

if only the sunsphere were full of beer. thus the golden color.

Oh Max, don't you know the Sunsphere is not a beer keg?

i think the bar itself is a viable business- hopefully someone will run it as just that, not attached to a failing catering business.

I'll be knocking back Lowenbrau up there very soon.

I'd frequent their bar if they served beer from Woodruff's or other regional breweries.

I'm a big fan of regional beer too PB, but from what I've seen I don't think the BeerSphere has anything on tap... I'll have to confirm that tonight, but every beer I've ordered up there came from a bottle. Maybe there are space issues with having kegs way up in the sky.

That's my understanding max. Logistics and the 'infrastructure' for draft beer simply isn't feasible up there. Plus, I don't think draft beer is sorta what they are going for in terms of their atmosphere.

I, for one, am willing to do my part to keep this place in business while I'm still in town. I shall now commence to drink my body weight next time I'm there.

And if it goes under, surely someone would want to assume ownership, right? I know parking's an issue, but come on! It's the Sunsphere!

I'll be there asap to get a drink. I have reason to celebrate!
