Pigeon Forge will never let go

It's sad but true that in the same breath I can say I loathe Pigeon Forge BUT am also pretty intrigued by the fact that someone is building a life-size Titanic there.

I won't get into all the ins and outs of why Pigeon Forge is an atrocity; you either agree or disagree. But people, LIFE SIZE TITANIC!

Maybe it's not as cool as I think it's going to be, but upon visiting, one will have the experience of actually being a passenger on the ship. There is even an ice wall you can touch. Ooooo!

They plan on opening in the spring of 2010 and admission will be somewhere around $25. It may be the only thing that lures me to spend some time in that area. Well, that... aaaand the Apple Barn Restaurant.

It's like Pigeon Forge recognizes the fact that it's ridiculousness and embraces it. 'What would make our city more over the top? I know! A Titanic replica!'

BTW, B, any time you want to go to Apple Barn just say the word. I lurve the Apple Barn.

Oh Pigeon Forge. I love everything about the Smoky Mountains except its gateway city.

My heart will go on.

Man, B, that might be TOO perfect.

p.s. apparently this is the second one they've built- the other one is in Branson, MO, Pigeon Forge's main contender for Tackiest Town in the US of A. And they're only building the front half of the ship. Lame. And you actually enter through a concrete iceberg. Awesome.

Why am I suddenly obsessed with this?!

ck, because you secretly wish they had asked you to be the architect for it.

mg, when i get back from my trip, i'm all over some apple barn. if we can visit the work-in-progress titanic, too.

Pigeon Forge = Ridiculous-ness = Truth.

I love me some Pigeon Forge, probably for all the reasons most people hate it...

It's okay if everyone else is wrong. Lol.

B -- I hate to burst your bubble just as you're learning to love Pigeon Forge, but the Titanic museum is only going to be half-sized.

Thankfully, though, the famed replica staircase between A- and B-decks will be full-sized.

Let's just hope there aren't any street artists charging for self-portraits.

This actually will be very cool. The husband and wife duo that are bringing this to Pigeon Forge, are quite the historians! He was the financial backer for the expedition and was featured on many documentaries that were on the History Channel, Discovery, etc. They have many original artifacts from the ship as well as the only original photos that were taken aboard before the ship's ultimate desmise.
